Playback Meets Tallinn — International Playback Theatre Performance
On 10 October, Tallinn hosts “Playback Meets Tallinn”, a playback theatre performance. Above all, the stories on stage come from the audience itself.
Audience members share moments, memories, feelings and experiences. Then the actors and a musician instantly give them a new form through improvisation. One story calls up the next. As a result, the evening becomes a unique encounter between people, stories and Tallinn.
For one night only, an international playback ensemble takes the stage. It brings together participants of the Third Baltic Playback Theatre Community Meeting. They come from Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Ukraine, Finland, Sweden and/or Norway.
Come with your own story, or simply listen and watch. After all, every story deserves attention.

What is playback theatre?
Jonathan Fox and Jo Salas created playback theatre in 1975. It is a form of improvised theatre. First, an audience member tells a story from their life, big or small, funny or painful. Next, the conductor helps to shape it. Finally, the actors and musician play it back on the spot. There is no script and no rehearsal. In other words, the stage does not show a play about someone else. Instead, it reflects the people in the room. Today, theatres, schools, communities and organisations use playback theatre around the world.
About the Third Baltic Playback Theatre Community Meeting
On 10–11 October, playback practitioners gather in Tallinn. They come from the Baltic states, Ukraine and the Nordic countries. The participants share experience, work side by side and strengthen the regional playback community. However, the Saturday evening performance is open to everyone. The Baltic School of Playback Theatre and Psychodrama is part of this community. That is why we invite you to join the audience.
